THE INSTRUMENT

“This is not glasses. Not a mask.
This is an instrument for finding light.”

The Light Instrument — Portrait of reflection
01 / DUAL REFLECTION

One single line of refraction. The upper plane captures the depth of the sea. The lower plane mirrors the rising sun. The human gaze aligns directly with the horizon.

Its purpose is not to alter sight. Its purpose is to shift the moment of human presence. When looking through its focal apertures, the noise of the world recedes, leaving only the pure horizon.

ANATOMY OF LIGHT

Constructed from optical-grade mirror acrylic and transparent polymer. Every contour serves to eliminate visual distraction and bridge the human retina with infinity.

DETAIL #01SPECIFICATION

THE HORIZON CREASE

Single Refraction Line · 3 mm Angle

The visor is creased along the horizontal equator. The calculated angle creates an optical dichotomy: the upper facet reflects the sky and sea expanse, while the lower facet captures the dawn glow.

METRICS:3 mm rear bend depth · Invisible from the front

STUDY OF PERCEPTION · DOMUS SOLIS SERIES

NINE PHASES OF LIGHT

Captured at the birthplace of the project — the bronze Door of the Sun on Langeron beach, Odesa. The instrument reveals how light is never identical from one breath to the next.

GOLDEN DAWN — People of Light Instrument
PHASE 01 · 05:24

Genesis · First Light

GOLDEN DAWN

The instant the upper crest of the sun pierces the horizon line. Warm amber fills the lower facet while the sea remains cool indigo.

STORM SURGE — People of Light Instrument
PHASE 02 · 11:15

Force · Marine Elements

STORM SURGE

Crashing sea foam explodes across the bronze portal of Domus Solis. Droplets scatter light into thousands of microscopic prisms.

CRIMSON SUNSET — People of Light Instrument
PHASE 03 · 19:42

Dusk · Embers of Day

CRIMSON SUNSET

Sky ablaze in velvet crimson. The sea reflects deep purple tones, holding the fading warmth before the fall of night.

CALM AZURE — People of Light Instrument
PHASE 04 · 13:00

Equilibrium · Pure Sky

CALM AZURE

High noon. The horizon dissolves into a seamless gradient of blue. The mirror surface merges cloud reflections with gentle ripples.

AMBER HORIZON — People of Light Instrument
PHASE 05 · 18:50

Symmetry · Alignment

AMBER HORIZON

Perfect alignment: the crease of the instrument exactly matches the boundary between water and fiery sun disc.

CREPUSCULAR RAYS — People of Light Instrument
PHASE 06 · 16:20

Drama · Cathedral of Clouds

CREPUSCULAR RAYS

Sunbeams ("God rays") fracture through stormy maritime clouds, casting sharp columns of luminescence across the waves.

PASTEL TWILIGHT — People of Light Instrument
PHASE 07 · 20:15

Stillness · Breath

PASTEL TWILIGHT

The golden hour gives way to lavender, peach, and soft violet. A meditative quiet envelopes the shore of Odesa.

FULL MOON PATH — People of Light Instrument
PHASE 08 · 01:40

Nocturne · Lunar Reflection

FULL MOON PATH

The silent sea beneath the full moon. A single narrow silver road of light connects the distant horizon straight to the viewer’s eye.

GOLDEN SPRAY — People of Light Instrument
PHASE 09 · 06:30

Vitality · Shorebreak

GOLDEN SPRAY

Morning breeze lifts salt water spray into the low angle sunlight, turning every droplet into liquid gold against the face.

“Every human moment is a singular light that will never repeat.”

ORIGIN · ODESA, UKRAINE

FROM THE BRONZE DOOR TO THE RETINA

DOMUS SOLIS→SAVE THE LIGHT→PEOPLE OF LIGHT

In 2017, Ukrainian sculptor Mikhail Reva installed Domus Solis (The House of the Sun) directly into the breakers of Langeron beach in Odesa. A bronze portal facing due east, welcoming the first beam of sunlight across the Black Sea.

For years, thousands gathered at dawn to look through the door. Eventually, the realization struck: the portal does not have to remain stationary on the shoreline. It can be placed directly upon the face.

“Light is everywhere, but we are too hurried to notice. The instrument is a quiet reminder to pause and receive.”
